An apprenticeship is a vocational training program which
generally
lasts for four years and combines both on and off-the-job
training and leads to a nationally recognised trade qualification.
Apprentices in the metropolitan area spend one day per week at a
training college and the rest of the working week is spent in paid
employment on-the-job.
Regional apprentices have the opportunity to attend block release
training during the year. The training organisation's will stipulate the
time spent in block, but this can range from a week to two weeks,
several times a year.
