Some commonly asked questions...

How long is an apprenticeship?
Most apprenticeships last for three to four years depending on the trade and previous qualifications. The training is done mostly on the job, however you will need to spend some time at block training or day release at a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to complete the off the job training component.

What apprenticeship should I be looking for?
The first thing to do is consider which trade you would like to train in. This may take some time to work out and you may need to get some advice from a Career Development Counsellor. If you are sure about the trade that you are most interested in, you need to find an employer. We have vacancies for apprenticeships and traineeships at various times during the year and can also link you in with other agencies who specialise in industry specific apprenticeships in different locations.

You also need to be aware of the pay rates for apprentices - first year rates are not very high and if you have loans or outstanding debts, you need to be aware of the amount you will earn as you go through your apprenticeship. There is help available through Centrelink and Government funding with Trade payments, however it is important for your success to make sure you don't have financial problems during the time of your training.
