Help for trainees and apprentices - Central Midland & Coastal Advocate 25/5/2011
Date posted: 31 May 2011
Apprentices and trainees in the Moora regions should benefit from recent federal and state budget announcements. The federal government announcement of $200 million funding for mentoring programs for apprentices is aimed at improving completion rates as, nationally, less than half of apprentices finish their training.
Not-for-profit training organisation Directions is one such mentoring program, providing much needed support for the region's apprentices and employers through its office in Moora. Directions Chief Executive Larry Davies said he hoped the funding announcement would translate into real outcomes for the apprentices. Mr Davies said issues faced by apprentices in regions like the Wheatbelt were often overlooked by government.
