Corey officially completed his apprenticeship in May this year at M&S O’Brien in Moora where he is now working as a qualified spray painter.
Discover more about Corey's views about his apprenticeship and his thoughts on working with Directions.
Corey is a prime example of how effective a training organisation can be when entering the workplace. He started with Directions in February 2007 as a school based trainee in automotive, while in Year 11 at Wongan Hills District Hight School.
After six months, Corey was offered a full time spray painting apprenticeship. Using the opportunity of being with a group training organisaton, in 2010 Corey transferred to a Perth workshop. He also experienced two other host employer placements co-ordinated by Directions.
Corey comments, “Without the support and guidance from a group training organisation like Directions, I don’t think I would have completed my apprenticeship. Being able to transfer to different workshops throughout my apprenticeship gave me a great opportunity to gain experience in several workplaces which refined my skills and also allowed me to live in different areas.”
