New Talent for the Wheatbelt - Assisting to reduce skills shortages in regional WA

The Directions office in Northam have recently welcomed Claire McGuire to their team - an enthusiastic Balladong Noongar woman who is excited to take on new challenges by assisting locals with Training and Employment endeavours.
Starting in January this year, Claire has taken on the role of Project Manager for Aboriginal Training and Employment where she will assist all Aboriginal people from school children through to adults gain employment and training in the Wheatbelt area.
Claire grew up in Northam before moving away for approximately 32 years, She has since returned to Northam, initially taking on a role at Holyoake as a Drug and Alcohol Counsellor.
It was in this role that she became inspired to help and motivate others, leading to her new role at Directions. Starting work at the age of 16, Claire comes from a strong work ethic background and is extremely motivated to assist Aboriginal people in the Wheatbelt area with employment, training and courses.
"I am taking my new role very seriously and I understand the importance of Aboriginal people in the region needing someone they can talk to and relate to."
"I can help them to feel comfortable and assist to get them on a career path. So far I am really enjoying the experience and the opportunity to make a difference in people's lives here at Directions" said Claire.
As the Project Manager for Aboriginal Training and Employment, Claire takes on a dual role. Within the employment side, Claire works to assist with Aboriginal Apprenticeships and Trainees in their workplaces.
Claire comments "This is a great way for businesses to employ a trainee or apprentice at minimal cost without having all the paperwork hassle."
On the training side Claire is facilitating Aboriginal trainess through their Retail and Business Certificates I - III.
With her passion to assist Aboriginal people in the Wheatbelt area, Claire is tailoring the delivery of her work to suit her clientele and to date is achieving fantastic results.
