John Rose - completing induction paper work-Dec16Having loads of experience doesn’t mean that you will never find yourself out of work but John Rose is proof that a determined attitude and a willingness to seek help can get amazing results and quickly, even with a downturn in his industry!

John, an excavator operator with 25 years’ experience in mining, first came to see our Workforce Development Centre team in early November. He had great work experience and skills but needed a little assistance in deciding his next moves, promoting himself, and applying online for a number of local roles.

His active job seeking approach resulted in connecting with a former employer and along with a great new resume developed with the assistance of Career Development Officer Vikki Sinagra, John was able to secure a position. John is pictured here completing his pre-employment paperwork for his new FIFO job.

Only six days elapsed between his first visit to Directions and this fantastic result, meaning John was only out of work for three weeks.

This achievement proves three important things when it comes to job-seeking;

  1. It is important to maintain contact and good relations (whenever possible) with your work-related network
  2. The potential of some good career guidance and a top shelf resume, and
  3. The value of seeking help.
