Career Centre helps Laura beat the competition!

Recognition, Success Stories

Laura Walsh good news pictureRelocating to a new town can be challenging enough but more so when you are keen to make a career change as well.

When the customer service position was advertised with the Shire of Northam, Laura White didn’t initially have the confidence to apply. Having recently moved to Northam from Kellerberrin, Laura was also unfamiliar with the local support available but luckily found herself at our Northam office.

Career Development Officer Megan Creagh was able to discuss the options available and evaluate where Directions could best help Laura. After support with her resume and attendance at our free career development workshops, Laura felt ready to take the next step. Megan worked with Laura through the application criteria and process.

When she was successful in gaining an interview, Directions Career Centre organised a mock interview so Laura could practice her techniques.

“This was fantastic,” Laura told us. “I felt confident going for the interview and prepared to answer questions that were asked.”

Following the call back for a second interview, the team once again assisted Laura to prepare. Laura got the call the day after her second interview, offering her the position and beating 54 other candidates.

“I was so extremely happy about this and for Megan’s help and the other staff at Directions (sic),  I am so thankful for the help I received.”
