Directions’ Career Centre client Shereen McGuire put her new computing skills to heart-warming use recently when she created a certificate of thanks for the Directions team for their assistance.
Shereen attended the Career Based Computer Basics Workshop in January which covers active job seeking and employers expectations regarding computer literacy, the basics of using computers, the internet and search engines, creating and navigating email, using Word, and using USBs.
Shereen has since received assistance to create a professional email address, build a resume, and to gain more confidence using a computer and its components, typing and the internet.
“After working as a Career Development Officer in the Wheatbelt for over three years now I have seen many clients who have identified lack of or limited computer skills as a barrier to securing employment. With many employers advertising online, this is something many clients have had to overcome” shared Directions’ Vikki Sinagra.
“I am very encouraged by Shereen’s commitment to develop computer skills using an application for teaching touch typing, attending our offices fortnightly to develop proficient typing”
Shereen is currently seeking volunteering opportunities locally and in the meantime continues to work hard to develop those computer skills.
