Interviews; practice makes perfect for Janice

After completing her Enrolled Nursing course in 2017 Janice Farrall was eager to pursue her career in the healthcare sector.

Janice originally visited Directions’ Career Centre in January this year to seek advice on her current resume. She received one to one career assistance and advice specifically on updating and tailoring her resume to target nursing roles. Janice also received job application advice from our team including one of the ‘big’ issues for many of our clients; how do I address selection criteria? Armed with that information, Janice applied for relevant positions from Northam to Perth and finally identified a great part time employment opportunity in her local area. She was excited to receive an invitation for an interview.

As many of us know, interviews can be very overwhelming and make even the most qualified or confident applicant nervous, so in June Janice attended a mock interview session where one of Directions’ Career Development Officers posed industry relevant interview questions to assist Janice to feel prepared going into the interview. In these sessions, responses and performance are reviewed and constructive feedback provided on articulation, presentation, research, knowledge, skills and experience.

“The staff team at Directions Career Centre, from start to finish, were fantastic and covered all areas of workforce preparation from resume to Interviews… I am very grateful for their help!” Janice told us. Janice also commented that her approach to interviews has changed after attending the session and overall felt more confident during the actual interview.

Janice commences employment this month and is very excited about her new nursing role and utilising her training. We wish her every success.
