Ongoing help supports career journey

Dean Umu had been a relief teacher throughout the Wheatbelt region but was keen to secure full-time employment in the profession his passion for continues to grow. He first visited Directions’ Career Centre back in 2016 where he received assistance building a professional resume tailored to achieve that goal.

Dean was able to secure a full-time teaching contract in Forrestfield with the help of an exceptional covering letter, resume and glowing references and has since been teaching full time. Dean is a dynamic, confident and motivated teacher with experience in all school levels, alternative classes and TAFE. He has a strong interest in being involved in and promoting inclusive education, multicultural recognition and performing arts and is the designer of some innovative educational programs.

Dean has revisited Directions’ Career Centre on more than 20 occasions since to utilise computers for job searching, receive advice on job applications, career guidance and action planning, and to complete online job applications. Dean most recently attended to update his current resume and share his ongoing success with our team.

“(Directions’ Career Centre team) are very inviting, informing and incredibly helpful in the delivery of their services” Dean told us.

Dean also shared that he found it very easy to discuss his personal circumstances, career aspirations and personal goals in such a safe, friendly and non-threatening environment.

On top of teaching Dean has gone from strength to strength with private tutoring as well, as a musician of seven instruments, and has been a band member of Divine Appointment who has performed in various locations around Perth.
