Samantha recognised as top aeroskills apprentice

Directions apprentice Samantha Daglish has taken out the top aeroskills apprentice prize in Australia at host company BAE Systems’ national awards last week.

This is the second time in two years that a WA based Directions apprentice has taken out this national apprentice award.

Samantha is in her third year of a Cert IV Aeroskills Mechanical Avionics apprenticeship and her on the job experience centres on the maintenance of Hawk aircraft.

“Samantha’s positive attitude and vibrant personality is infectious coupled with her ability (to) work within a team environment makes her contribution to the Pearce workforce capability extremely valuable.”

In nominating her, her BAE supervisor commended how quickly Samantha has demonstrated her potential to become an excellent technician.

“Samantha has demonstrated excellent hand skills in her chosen trade (Mechanical), this has been demonstrated with her ability to accomplish tasks that are challenging, attaining excellent outcomes commensurate with those of a fully authorised tradesperson.”

Samantha was also recognised for exhibiting the values of a great employee as well as for her technical skills.

“Samantha whilst new to the aviation industry is very conscious of the requirement to adhere to processes and procedures ensuring airworthiness is maintained. This however, does not restrict Samantha challenging these processes and subsequently providing constructive input. Samantha is able to articulate her challenges in a respectful manner that has earnt her respect within the workforce.”
