Directions WA - a not for Profit Charity Organisations

For over 30 years Directions has been committed to supporting our community to grow and thrive, primarily through skills and workforce development. Today, as an ACNC registered charity, we continue that commitment through practical opportunities to make a real difference in our community.

These programs and activities are made possible by the business and support of our clients. Any surplus that we make is reinvested to further support our own services to the community or invested in our community programs.

By working with us to produce the next generation of tradespeople, professional, business owners and leaders, our clients are working with us to make a real difference.

Community Support Through Traineeships

Through this program we will provide support to our community via other dedicated charities and not for profit organisations, to help them grow and continue to make a difference.

By placing a fully funded trainee with the selected recipient organisation, we enable them to grow their internal capabilities while providing an employment and training opportunity for a carefully selected individual.

In its inaugural year, the Community Support Through Traineeships program funded two full time Business trainees for 12 months to WA organisations Mates in Construction WA and Share and Care Northam.

Career Directions careers expos

Launched in 2018 the Career Directions careers expo is an annual event hosted and funded by Directions to provide a unique opportunity for Wheatbelt regional students and jobseekers of all ages to access career and training information, employment service support and engage with employers with real jobs all in one place.

The expo has a particular emphasis on indigenous employment and training opportunities.

The event was the first of its kind and has grown to over 50 exhibitors showcasing opportunities across a wide range of industries and occupations, apprenticeships and traineeships, and education opportunities from vocational through to universities across WA.

The event is hugely popular with regional high schools, who bus in student groups for the event.

Supporting volunteering

Directions actively encourages and facilitates our apprentices and trainees to undertake volunteer work with suitable organisations, particularly when circumstances such as injury or breaks in on the job training such as shut downs – a more common feature recently in a pandemic affected economy - occur.

Directions believes these community experiences contribute to building great employees and future leaders as well as great tradespeople and technicians.

Feeding the community

As a charity ourselves, we know how much need is in our community and how much difference a little help can make in a lot of lives.

Directions supports organisations who are providing practical, grass roots help in the regions we operate.

For several years now Directions has funded winter soup kitchens as well as assisting with food relief efforts and Christmas meals for those doing it tough, through St Joseph’s in Northam and Dreambuilders Care in Midland.

Driving to Work with Directions

Directions is helping eligible vocational program students at Gilmore College in Kwinana to address one of the barriers to gaining employment and further training – a driver’s licence.

Directions is sponsoring 125 driving lessons with a qualified local driving instructor initially. The recipients of the program will be Year 11 students currently in the Process Plant (PPO) and Gilmore Electrotechnology and Metals (GEM) Programs).

This will ultimately assist in their transition from school to employment, including into an apprenticeship or traineeship.

Our partnering with Dress for Success

Directions has joined forces with Dress for Success - Perth to support women to gain or improve their financial independence through employment. Managed by an MOU signed in 2021, Directions sponsors and coordinates with Dress for Success to bring their very successful styling and self care sessions and other career development support to the women of the Wheatbelt.
